Yesterday’s training update email….
OK, I’m being a little lazy here but hey, I just started a real J-O-B!
Written 2.21.10……..
Hello!
This morning, I ran 17 miles — most of it on the Boston Marathon course. It was long and slow and pretty painful, and the only one I can blame is myself. You see, my training has not been as, how can I say this, focused, as in years past. I am slogging through the runs instead of loving them, and the speed I once had is but a distant memory.
Sometimes, life gets in the way of running.
But, I am still out there.
I’m doing the best I can as I plug forward to my 10th (and yes, final, I promise!) marathon finish line. On April 19, I will line up in Hopkinton with my 500 or so Dana-Farber teammates as we eun 26.2 miles to end cancer. We are the largest charity team and we raise the most money — our collective goal for 2010 is $4.4 million, 100% of which will fund the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research.
Because I did not set a time goal for myself this year (other than to finish vertical), I set a lofty fundraising goal. To mark my 10th marathon in 2010, I am aiming to raise $10,000 for the amazing scientists at Dana-Farber. They are doing out-of -the-box research that is not funded by federal grant money, and while my brain does not do well with science, my legs can run. So, I do what I can.
So far, I have raised a whopping $4,336.27 — almost half of my goal! To everyone who has donated, a giant THANK YOU! Your support — year after year — is overwhelming.
There’s still time to donate and you can do so online at:

You can also make out a check to “Dana-Farber Marathon Challenge” and mail it to me at:

I will then send it into Dana-Farber.
More updates to come as the marathon gets closer. For now, I am putting my head down and my energy into getting myself into slightly better shape before that big Monday in April. I know, that in the end, it is not about me. It is about helping Dana-Farber for the 5th year in a row and being part of a team that is filled with the biggest hearts I know.
With many more miles to go….

PS As a side note, I will be starting a new job tomorrow at Healthworks, doing events and marketing and partnerships for the all-women’s fitness clubs. My new office will be on Newbury Street so if you’re down in Back Bay, let me know!
We can go for a run!

Judith!
Congrats on your new job! I was a member at Healthworks for over 10 years and loved it. It was my training spot for the 99th running!
I look forward to hearing more about your 10th marathon training and fundraising.

Welcome to Healthworks! I train at Cambridge HW and have dabbled in bootcamps, plus I may run Boston with CycleKids charity group, so I hope we’ll get to meet soon. It seems like we’ll have plenty to talk about! Run on, run strong, -Sunny
